BROMMA BOOSTS OPERATOR SAFETY WITH NEW LOAD SENSING TECHNOLOGY

Bromma, the world’s leading crane spreader company, has expanded its spreader safety products portfolio with a new load sensing system for the spreader twistlocks. Mis-declaration of container weights is a significant risk issue in the container handling industry. Bromma technology offers a simple way to reduce risk and enhance safety.

Bromma spreaders outfitted with load sensing technology at the spreader twistlocks can:

 verify container weights
 identify container overloads or understatement of container weight
 identify out-of-balance eccentric loads
 perform each of these functions without any interruption to normal port processes and without any lessening of port productivity
 identify when containers are lifted by yard cranes from the trailer truck while one or more corners of the chassis remain connected to the container

Each of these conditions represent a well-known safety risk at terminals. As such, installation of load sensing technology offers compelling benefits, including:

 accident prevention
 elimination of container stack collapses due to overloaded containers
 safer operating conditions for port personnel
 lower commercial risk
.
Bromma’s new load sensing system joins an expanding portfolio of other safety solutions also available from Bromma. The Bromma TTDS twin-twenty detection system enables a crane operator to detect a gap between two 20’ foot containers in a 40’ cell – a real risk, and a potentially dangerous lifting situation. While other spreader manufacturers have offered mechanical solutions, Bromma was first-to-market, and is still unique today, in its use of a 7 photo-electric sensor, solid-state architecture to detect gap risks.

Bromma also has a fully automatic OSX45 overheight frame that is handled by the crane, which keeps ground service staff out of harm’s way. In addition, Bromma spreaders include failsafe logic and interlocks to prevent accidental container unlocking.
